Remembering Mahasti

Remembering Mahasti
This June 25th marks the one year anniversary of the passing of renowned Iranian singer Mahasti. She, along with her older sister Hayedeh, had endeared themselves to millions of fans with their majestic and unforgettable voices. The two sisters had tremendous contributions to improving the image of female singers in Iran and in transitioning the Iranian music from where it was to where it is now.

Khadijeh Eftekhar Dadehbala, known as Mahasti, started her career at "Golhaye Rangarang", the traditional music radio program that was broadcasted on Iranian National Radio. She overcame her family's reluctance to her singing to have a legendary career and recorded over 35 albums. In her albums, she's worked with other singers such as Sattar, Golpa, Iraj, Aref, Moein, and Hayedeh.

Mahasti passed away after a long battle with colon cancer in Santa Rosa, California. She is survived by her daughter and two grandchildren. A star-studded memorial service was held for her a year ago, at her final resting place next to her sister. And her music and her voice will be with us forever.
